Building Partner: Gawad Kalinga
Gawad Kalinga seeks to empower poor communities to become self-reliant and sustainable by building up its people, preparing their leaders and residents to eventually care for their own communities while instilling in them the heart and capacity to help other poor communities. Gawad Kalinga is an incredible organization. They're some of the nicest people we know, a dream to work with and amazing at building homes. They’ve already housed 70,000 people in more than 2,000 communities across the Philippines by putting community above all else. In November (2015) we broke ground on our first community with Gawad Kalinga in Manila.
The homes we build in the Philippines are made of locally produced materials and are built by the families that will eventually move in. The colorful exteriors of these 260 square foot two story homes are a true representation of the uplifting optimism of the community, the culture and the country.
